John Efford - John Efford 'I’d love to be premier' near his home in Bareneed, Newfoundland and Labrador. The longterm provincial politician moved to federal politics when he lost the provincial leadership campaign to Roger Grimes. Newfoundlanders expected a strong voice when Efford went to Ottawa. While in Prime Minister Paul Martin's Cabinet, Efford clashed publically with Premier Danny Williams over the Atlantic Accord. He did not run in the last federal election citing health reasons.

Mponda Kalunga-Loksa - Mponda Kalunga-Loksa, known to everyone as George, in the Hard Tack boxing gym in St. John’s. 17 year old Kalunga-Loksa came to Canada as a refugee from Egypt in 1999. He won the silver medal for Newfoundland and Labrador at the Canada Winter Games in February.

The Progressive Conservatives were expected to hold power, but the election resulted in a landslide for the Premier.

The End of the Rainbow - Tropical storm Chantal hit Newfoundland hard and record rainfalls of over 150 millimeters hammered some parts of the Avalon Peninsula. A state of emergency was declared in Dunville where roads were washed out and parking lots such as the one for Kelly’s Convenience store became part of the river.
